I was having some hip pain for quite a while as I trained for the New Jersey Marathon. The ultimate goal was to re-qualify for the Boston Marathon next year after missing the qualifying time this year.
I had seen another chiropractor who did some stretching for my hip muscle. It felt better right after but once I had to train again, the pain came right back.
About two days before the NJ Marathon, I called Justin to see if he could do anything to help my hip. I was thinking he was going to give me some stretches to do, possibly different than I had already been doing.
After going through the exam, Justin explained to me exactly why the ‘stretching’ was not helping. In fact, I needed ‘strengthening’ exercises rather than the stretching I had been doing.
He found that my right hip was weak which gave me trouble every time I landed on that leg while running.
I incorporated the exercises into my daily routine and by Saturday, I was ready to run.
I am happy to say I hit a PR in the NJ Marathon at 3:01.09 and requalified for Boston next year. I realize I still have a long way to go in order to get strong for the season, but I am excited to see how much I can improve with Justin’s guidance!
